STAMFORD’S U16s have got off to a flyer with two wins from their opening two games.

They beat Ketton 3-1 in their opening game and beat Bourne by the same scoreline last weekend.

Scorers against Bourne were Declan McNally with two, and Liam Parish. McNally now has three goals from his two games.

New manager Matt Davis said: “This has been a fantastic start for what is a brand new team.

“I was lucky enough to get hold of some very decent players that are all nice lads, in a very short space of time.

“All these lads have shown a desire to work hard during pre-season in the hopes of making it into the Stamford Youth Team setup next year and are now really starting to gel well. The football we play looks to be of a high standard.”

The side forms part of Stamford’s development programme which include teams from U8 - U21 levels. The U16s play in Division Three of the Peterborough Youth League.

They play Wisbech Acorns away on Sunday.
