Peterborough Rovers 3

Ryhall United 2

RYHALLUnited conceded a last minute goal for the third time in four away matches on Saturday, this time losing 3-2 to Peterborough Rovers.

The defeat was even more shocking as Ryhall started the game in great fashion and raced to a 2-0 lead and in total control of the game.

Jonny Hewing grabbed his second goal in as many matches with an excellent diving header after just 10 minutes. Jono Smith doubled Ryhall’s lead on the half hour with a well placed shot.

Rovers wasted a spot kick after Harry Hanwell was guilty of a clumsy tackle in the area but Ryhall’s dominance evaporated soon after that let-off. They were put under pressure in the closing stages of the first half and in a disastrous final five minutes conceded twice.

Rovers pulled a goal back after a mix up in the Ryhall rearguard and right on half time a corner was headed in to equalise.

Ryhall might have controlled the first half but the second was a battle as both teams struggled to hold on to the ball. The game seemed to be heading for a draw until a free kick in the final minute deflected off the post to roll in and seal Ryhall’s defeat.

Ryhall now have three back-to-back home fixtures in the Peterborough League Division Two, starting with the visit of second-bottom Guyhirn tomorrow.
