Ryhall United battled out a impressive 1-0 victory away to Wisbech Reserves in the PDFL Division One on Saturday.
On a windswept day the game was hampered by the gale force swirling wind that limited the amount of good football played.
Ryan Brown had the game’s first chance after ten minutes as he was put through by a Joe Lippett header, but with just the keeper to beat Brown failed to make decent contact and the ball harmlessly rolled into the keeper’s arms.
Jack Neath then went close as he pounced onto a Barry Burton cross but again poor connection let him down.
With twenty minutes played the opening goal came, Luke Ball curled in a free kick and Neath held off his marker before heading home.
Greg Dunn sent a free kick over the bar just before the half time whistle.
Brown blasted a shot past the keeper in the opening minute of the second half but was left frustrated as the ball flew inches wide.
Lippett then almost pulled off goal of the season, with an audacious flick and shot on the turn that landed on the roof of the net.
At the other end Ryhall keeper John Feetham kept busy acting like a sweeper behind the back four, time and again cancelling out any through balls Wisbeach were attempting.
Dunn thought he had won a penalty after being felled in the area but the referee waved away his appeals.
In the end the solo goal was enough to earn United the three points as a solid display limited the home side to very few goal scoring opportunities.
