Nine-man Ryhall undaunted

Ryhall United 6 Parkside 0

RYHALL United hit bottom club Parkside for six despite playing for more than 50 minutes with just nine men.

Ryhall were ahead after 10 minutes when Wes Da Silva headed home a Ricky Pozella free kick and Pozzella himself grabbed the second with an accurate low drive into the bottom corner.

A Phil Bartlett header made it 3-0 on the half hour and the game looked plain sailing. But with five minutes of the half to play, Da Silva reacted angrily after being caught by an elbow challenging for the ball. The Parkside player was booked for the elbow and Da Silva shown a straight red for his reaction.

Within seconds Bartlett was following Da Silva after receiving his marching orders for protesting Da Silva’s innocence.

Yet United stood firm to the challenge and played the entire second half two men down and their solid defensive display was only over-shadowed by a brilliant performance from Eddy Pentney that saw him score a second-half hat-trick as the lone striker.

Parkside drove forward looking to make the extra men count but Ryhall made them pay with swift counters that Pentney cooly finished off and as the game came to a close it was the home side that finished the stronger.

Ryhall: J Russon, R Wilkinson (J Smith), S Moss, J Hewing, A Sheehan (J Feetham), D Sheehan, W Da Silva, M Webb, P Bartlett, R Pozella (J Sheehan), E Pentney. Match sponsor: Mike Waycot, Crown House.

Ryhall reserves’ lack of goalscoring proved costly as they squandered a host of first half chances before a second half collapse saw them go down 3-0 at Sutton Bridge. It was Ryhall’s fourth blank in their last five games.
