Manager-of-the-month award winner Steve Wilson was delighted as Bourne Town’s youngsters recorded a fourth successive victory.
The Wakes remain fifth in the ChromaSport & Trophies United Counties League’s Division One table after a 6-1 demolition of rock-bottom Burton Park Wanderers.
Wilson was presented with February’s managerial award at half-time when Bourne were already 5-0 up.
After the game, he said: “It’s great to receive the award but it’s a team honour.
“February looked to have some hard games but we came through them and we have to give massive credit to the lads.
“We played some top teams who were on form but we got the results we deserved.
We want players to try things, express themselves and learn here. we don’t want them to be scared.Steve Wilson
“We are a young team who are maturing. These lads are performing week in, week out.
“Last week at Olney Town our defending was fantastic when we came under a lot of pressure.
“We knew that Saturday’s game at home to Burton Park Wanderers could be a banana skin.
“So we wanted to start well and keep pressing them all over the field.
“We got our rewards and we told them to keep going.
“We want players to try things, express themselves and learn here. We don’t want them to be scared.
“You could see it worked with a couple of Zak Munton’s goals.
“There is a little bit of banter because his dad is the joint chairman but it creates a good atmosphere around the squad.
“We are probably higher than where we thought we would be but over-achieving is what good teams do.
“We want to stay up there but we’ll just take each game as it comes.”
