Stamford AFC snapped their three game losing streak in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League with a 1-1 draw at home to Blyth Spartans on Saturday.

The Daniel’s top marksman Ryan Robbins found the target once again, breaking the deadlock after 16 minutes.

However the visitors were level by half time after a Jarrett Rivers shot was directed into his own net by Stamford skipper Richard Jones, past a helpless Andy Stevens between the posts.

Blyth had more possession and just edged the number of chances in the game however it was a game dominated by good defences.

Barring the deflected own goal Jones, Lewis Carr, Nathan Cox and Ryan Clarke kept the chances to a minimum with a good day at the office.

Stamford’s goal came on the break. Jordan Smith found space on the right and fired the ball across the face of the goal for the alert Robbins to put away from close range.

Just before the break man of the match Fox was called into action to clear a Nathan Bundle header off the line.

After the break both defences were on top but Robbins had a chance late in the day to steal all three points but for once the Daniel’s top scorer was unable to get on the end of Smith’s inviting cross.

Stamford are currently in fifth place in the league with a game in hand over most of the sides in the league.

On Saturday their attention returns to the FA Cup qualifying when they host Grantham Town in the second round. Kick off 3pm.
