Ryhall top of table at Christmas

Guyhirn 1 Ryhall United 2

RYHALL United came from a goal down to win their last game of 2011, and go top of the table.

United conceded a sloppy, early goal during a lacklustre start to the game. They failed to cut out a long ball and Guyhirn’s striker took advantage of a free run at goalkeeper Jimmy Russon before squaring the ball for an unmarked midfielder to tap in from just six yards out.

Ryhall improved as the game wore on and they levelled when James Farmbrough beat the offside trap before slotting his shot neatly under the keeper.

United took the lead at the start of the second half when Ricky Pozella beat two defenders before finding Micheal Webb whose low cross was turned in by a Guyhirn defender for an own goal.

The remainder of the half was scrappy with Guyhirn pushing for an equaliser. Ryhall defended well, controlling the midfield but not posing any real attacking threat.

With Castor’s game postponed last Saturday, Ryhall moved a point clear at the top. Ryhall are at home to Woodston in their next match, due to be played on January 7.

Ryhall: J Russon, A Sheehan, R Wilkinson, S Moss, J Hewing, C Harris (A Watts), D Sheehan, M Webb, S Ford (E Pentney), J Farmbrough, R Pozella. Sub: J Sheehan.
