Spirited Ketton seal first win

Ketton 2 Powerleague 1

KETTON showed tremendous spirit to claim all three points against Powerleague following an eventful game at Pit Lane on Saturday.

Fate seemed to be conspiring against the Rutlanders after both Alex Griffin (broken collarbone) and goalkeeper Jamie Scott (head injury) had to be substituted and taken to hospital either side of half time.

And things got worse when two minutes after losing Scott as the visitors took a 1-0 lead from close range.

However, Ketton dug deep and reasserted their control on the game. The returning Paul Richardson drew them level with 20 minutes to play and then in the closing minutes rose highest to meet a Alex Collyer corner to head home.

Joint manager and stand-in keeper John Hoyles said: “The boys showed fantastic character. It’s exactly the kind of result and performance that we needed.

“In many ways it will probably do us more good than a comfortable win as we had to work so hard for it. Hopefully we can take this forward from here and grow in confidence.”

Ketton: Jamie Scott (Ian Marsh), Scott Murthwaite, Scott Holland, Alex Sismore (James Farrell), Matt Lawrence, Matt Woodman, Alex Collyer, John Hoyles, Alex Griffin (Jamie Hill), Liam Palmer, Paul Richardson. Sub not used: Andy Gray.
