Squad is growing stronger on the pitch but need more volunteers for the club to continue to thrive off it

Have your say

The 2012/13 season started encouragingly for The Wakes with the announcement of a new club sponsor and a tie up with AFC Stamford Town.

Due to circumstances both ideas lasted only a few weeks. The sponsors walked away from the club and the tie up failed to materialize.

On the pitch, the first team were dealt a difficult start to their fixtures playing all the favourite teams and big spenders early on - in some cases twice.

This lead to the team finding itself in a lowly position but once they found their feet they have gone on a run that sees them in a more expected mid-table position.

Big victories over Buckingham and Wootton Blue Cross saw the lads realize their true potential and away victories at Raunds and Thrapston were well deserved.

The Reserves however are finding life difficult again in division two and currently languish at the bottom. However a massive 7-1 away victory at Olney Town showed what they are capable of.

Results in the League Cup Group competition were Jekyll and Hyde with some heavy defeats combined with victories over higher league opposition.

Then manager James Dainty had to resign due to work commitments and Scott McKenzie took over the reins until the end of the season.

Off the field of play things for 2013 need to improve.

The expected fencing will hopefully start to be erected by early February but apart from a few dedicated sponsors the club need more backers.

Considering the size of the town, support through the gates is dwindling with attendances rarely above 30 paying supporters. It is disappointing that the people of Bourne do not come to support their local club bearing in mind we have good facilities and have a team of local lads who dedicated to Bourne Town.

The overworked committee will strive to keep the club going but they also need some extra help running the club. Anybody interested should contact the club directly.

Finally the Club wish to thank all the sponsors, players and people who do come to help out on match days, their help is greatly appreciated.

Support The Wakes in 2013.
