They may have left it later than some teams to begin their pre-season matches but Thurlby United certainly started with a bang.
The Grantham Sunday League side put 10 past a hapless Spalding Wanderers at Moulton Seas End on Sunday.
After struggling to establish their passing game on an awful pitch, Thurlby finally broke through after 15 minutes with Jacob Parkin slotting home.
Soon after, Matthew Medler made it 2-0, rounding the goalkeeper to finish.
From then on, Thurlby never looked like they could be stopped. Steve Mastin scored the third and Steve Main showed great strength to beat a defender and make it 4-0.
Main added the fifth from the penalty spot after Daniel Flood had been brought down.
Mastin bagged his brace and there was still time for Michael Hasler to make it a magnificent seven before half time.
Main completed his hat-trick after the break to make 8-0, scoring from a goal mouth scramble.
Thurlby were awarded their second penalty when Medler was brought down and this time, Ciaren Reynolds stepped up to score number nine.
Mastin ran clear of the defence to complete his hat-trick and put Thurlby into double figures.
The one major blow for Thurlby came close to the end of the game when Hasler was caught rounding the goalkeeper and broke his ankle in two places.
