There were mixed results for teams from the Stamford and Bourne area on Tuesday evening.

The Wakes lost 6-2 to Peterborough Sports at the Abbey Lawn where the visitors’ victory lifted them into top spot in the United Counties League first division.

Sports had already had one effort disallowed for offside before Gary Gibbs gave them a sixth minute lead, and the city side doubled their lead just five minutes later with Dan Drane steering steer the ball under keeper Aaron Bellairs.

Bourne wer eback in the game on 26 minutes. Sports defender Darren Fogg was dismissed for handball on the goal line and Alex Brockbank converted the penalty.

Sports restored their two-goal lead early in the second half when Gibbs converted a Kev Brader centre.

Seb Hood’s powerful header from a corner revived Bourne’s hopes of a fightback just four minutes later but a fourth visiting goal, scored by Gerard Evans after 71 minutes, and a fifth from Daniels Clements, scoring from the penalty spot, ended the Wakes’ hopes of a first league victory at the third attempt.

Gibbs completed his hat-trick on 90 minutes.

Bourne: Aaron Bellairs, Kev Elger, Lewis Hall (Danny Pick), Craig Rook, Seb Hood, Aaron Jesson, Andy Moss, Ashley Firth, Alex Brockbank, John Currall (George Holliday), Stewart Lambie.

Langtoft United and Ryhall United were both victorious in the Peterborough and Distrct League’s first division.

Langtoft won 1-0 at Ketton, while Ryhall won 3-0 at home against Stamford Bels.
