Victory boosts Town as busy run of fixtures looms

Uppingham Town bounced back from their defeat in the Rutland derby to beat Riverside Rovers 2-1 at Tods Piece on Saturday.

Jamie Binley scored for Town in the first half, which ended all square at 1-1, and Rob Forster secured the points for Town with 10 minutes remaining.

The victory lifted Town to ninth ahead of a tough clash with Peterborough ICA yesterday evening.

Uppingham have a busy run of fixtures with the visit of Ramsey on Saturday and Deeping Rangers Reserves on Wednesday evening.

Last Wednesday evening’s derby match between Uppingham and Oakham United went the way of the visitors who scored four times in the second half to overturn Dave Laughton’s opening strike.

The Town striker volleyed Uppingham ahead shortly before the half hour mark but with the wind behind them in the second half, Oakham claimed a comfortable victory.

Tom Bain levelled eight minutes into the second half and Alex Brockbank put Oakham ahead three minutes later.

A late brace from Nathan Arkle secured Oakham all three points. United, who did not play on Saturday, host Peterborough ICA in their final home game of the season on Saturday.

Elsewhere in the Peterborough and District League, Ketton picked up six points from their games against Netherton Reserves on Saturday and Stamford Bels on Tuesday evening.

Marc McLeod scored twice and Nick Greenwood once as Ketton beat Bels 3-1 while Liam Palmer bagged both Ketton’s goals in their 2-1 victory at home to Netherton.

Ketton host Moulton Harrox Reserves on Saturday and then travel to Ryhall United on Tuesday evening.

Ryhall, who did not play last Saturday, host Sutton Bridge tomorrow afternoon.

l Oakham United held a fundraising race night at the Royal Duke recently.

l Cottesmore Amateurs ground out a goalless draw at Desford which did nothing to help either side move closer to a top half finish in the Leicestershire Senior League.

Amateurs host Saffron Dynamo at Rogues Park this weekend.
