Baston FC kept their unbeaten run in Peterborough and District Football League Division Two going with a thumping 7-0 away win over Oakham United Reserves on Saturday.

The victory takes the Goats to the top of league.

Despite playing the last 30 minutes with just ten men a man-of-the-match performance from double goal scorer James Simpson helped the Goats get the better of Oakham. Simpson capped a fine display with two assists.

Baston will hope they have the same success when they face Langtoft in the derby next Saturday at home. Kick off 2pm.

Baston Reserves capped a fine afternoon for the club with a 4-0 victory at home to Sutton Bridge Reserves in the Peterborough and District Football League Division Four.

Ben Hudson opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a goal which will be remembered for some time.

After Craig Bullivant had forced the keeper to save with his leg from a break-away attack deep in Baston’s half, the rebound fell at the feet of birthday boy Hudson who sweetly struck the ball into the net from halfway.

Man of the match Shaun Dennis added the second and Bullivant got on the scoreboard just before half time to put the result beyond doubt.

In the 61st minute Troy Water put the icing on the cake with a fourth goal.

The win for the Reserves kept them up to speed with top of league Hampton Sport FC, who lead by one point, and Spalding Town FC, who are level on 18 points with Baston but lead the reserves through goal difference.

Next up for the Reserves is an away trip to Tydd St Mary FC on Saturday, Kick off 2pm.
