Wakes had a point to make - Munton

Have your say

Wakes boss Darren Munton believes Saturday’s draw at league leaders Oadby Town proves a point to anyone who had written his side off.

Bourne drew 0-0 away against the United Counties League leaders who had not previously dropped a point this season – a run that included a 5-2 win at the Abbey Lawn early in the season – but the Wakes were match for their hosts on Saturday.

“Before the game, nobody gave us a hope,” Munton said. “They have been scoring goals for fun, while we’ve let in 15 goals in five games.

“I am really pleased with the way the lads performed but also a little disappointed that we didn’t win because we had a the best two chances of the game.

“It was a great relief to end the barren run. Now we can go and enjoy the football again. It’s a massive lift."
