Gold for Carlby fencer Ferguson

Bourne Grammar School fencer William Ferguson has won at one of the UK’s premier fencing competitions.

William Ferguson from Carlby had an outstanding performance in the U13 Epee category, progressing through the early pool stages with five wins including a confident victory over the U13 number one seed by 5 : 2.

Starting the direct elimination rounds in overall fourth position he won the first round match 10 : 5 and then winning 10 : 7 in the last 16 to progress to the quarter-finals which he won again by 10:7.

William moved through the semi-final in a very strong manner winning 10 : 3, and then beat the number two seed in the final by 10 : 9 to take the gold medal.

William belongs to OPS (Oundle, Peterborough and Stamford) Epee club.
