Sue and all the members are now looking forward to a busy year that will see them participate in a handicap league as well as a scratch league, culminating in more than 20 matches throughout the season.

The Rutland Water Ladies Open also takes place on Thursday, May 16.

Sharon Baxter has had a winter to remember, claiming victories in the Ladies Winter League and the Ladies Eclectic.

Sharon, who is renowned for her consistency, produced a masterclass in the winter league throughout the colder months to take the spoils and win by a comfortable eight points with a total of 197 points.

In a tie for second with a score of 189 points were Marion Clarke and Jane Houghton and back in fourth was Liz Pengelly, a point further away.

In the Ladies eclectic gross division, Sharon once again blew away the opposition with an unbeatable gross score of 69 shots.

This was good enough for a five stroke victory over Marion Clarke in second with 74. Back in third was Sara Glover with 75.

In the nett division, Sharon was victorious again, but this time she had to share the triumph with Brenda Blandford.

Both players ended up with nett scores of 49 despite different handicaps which was enough for a one shot victory over Carol Gillespie on 50 and two shots clear of Jane Houghton and Henrietta Geddes with 51.

The Eclectic competition proved extremely popular over the winter months with more than 300 rounds completed in total by the lady members.

Congratulations go to Rutland Water member Sasha Weightman who has once again been picked to represent Leicestershire county this season.
