Striker Greg Smith has left Stamford AFC to re-join their Evo-Stik NPL rivals Grantham Town.

Smith has been in great form this season, scoring five goals for the Daniels including their late winner against Leamington in the FA Cup first qualifying round replay.

The big number nine has slimmed down this season and has a great touch for a man of his size.

He was straight back into the action on Saturday, starting in the Gingerbreads’ first win of the league season, a 2-1 defeat of Matlock Town.

In fact he helped set-up the first Grantham goal for Rhys Lewis to score in the 87th minute and then Brad McGowan won the tie three minutes into injury time.

It is Smith’s fifth move in 18 months .

Smith wrote on Twitter on Friday: “I would like to thank Stamford for my time at the club, great fans and great group of lads. All the best to everyone at the club.”

On Tuesday last week, manager David Staff also left the Daniels after a disappointing start to the season which sees them sitting second from bottom in the league, with only Ramsbottom United propping up the league.
