The highlight of the week at Rutland Water was the popular Fur and Feather with well stocked festive hampers awarded to the top three rods.

Despite the unsettled weather leading up to Sunday’s match it was an amazing turnout with 48 anglers fishing the banks at Rutland.

The winner was Martin Hearth of Hambleton with a total weight of 13lb 11oz. Martin’s six fish limit was taken on humungus from the Normanton Bank.

Second was Iain Barr with six fish for 13lb exactly. Iain found fish in very shallow water in Barnhill Creek, fishing a floating fry on the point coupled with two nymphs.

Third was Oakham’s Matt Gregory with four fish including the best Rainbow of the competition at exactly 3lb.

Matt’s bag limit went 8lb 8oz. Fish were caught from the Transformer, the Finches and Barnhill Creek on the Peninsula.

Other popular spots included Old Disabled Bay, Fishing Lodge frontage and the Normanton bank.

Prospects for the coming week look more promising with southerly winds and mild conditions forecast. Boats are still available from through to Sunday.

Rutland Water has a festive treat lined up for anglers on Boxing Day.

All boats must be back at 3pm for refreshments.

It’s an ideal opportunity to test the new gear you got for Christmas.
