Home side Burghley Bears posted the biggest score of the night to come back and beat Old Oakhamians to claim a place in the quarter-finals of the Burghley Park sixes competition tonight (July 8).
Old Oakhamians had raced to 77-2 with Archie Stroud hitting 39 not out. But 33 not out from Nick Cowley and 24 unbeaten by Gareth Hook gave the Bears a 79-1 victory.
In the second game of the night Burghley’s neighbours Uffington progressed through to the next round after notching 66-0. Damien Herrick hit 30 not out and Jak Garner added 21.
Newborough chased hard but could only must 53-5.
Uppingham marched through despite Stamford RUFC reaching 44-3. Jamie Dumford saw Town home with 13 not out as his side reached 47-2.
Tomorrow night (July 9) Oakham take on Barnack, and Ketton Lions face Stamford Town in the final first round games before the first quarter-final between Ufford Park and Empingham takes place.
One Thursday the three remaining quarter finals will be played before the semi-final and final the following evening.
