Hughes finishes on top of the pile in Toft GC winter series

The final Stableford and Eclectic Competition of the winter series at Toft Golf Club fell on St Patrick’s Day and was celebrated with the offer of two bottles of Irish Whiskey kindly donated by Paul Stark and Richard Shuttlewood, in aid of the Captain’s Charity.

The first bottle was won by Roger Everson, for nearest the pin on the 8th hole, and the second bottle was snapped up by Joe Grimer who had an excellent birdie on nearest the pin in three the 17th hole.

A field of 61 golfers took part and first was G Tinkler on 42 points, second was T Cushing with 41 and third was B Peel a point behind with 40.

Next was J Shillingford in fourth with 39pts on count back, fifth J Lewis 39pts,sixth G Tinson, 38pts on countback, seventh P Asher, 38pts on countback, eighth J Tummon, 38pts, ninth T Lacey 37pts on countback and tenth was F Mills also on 37pts.

After ten rounds the final standings in the Winter Eclectic Results saw Graham Hughes finish first, ahead of David Chappell in second, John Shillingford in third and Ray Bills in fourth.

Toft ladies entertained Tydd St.James in the second round of the Mail On Sunday national competition in a match blessed with lovely sunny weather and ideal playing conditions

The home players faced a friendly team which made for a pleasant round of competitive golf and the final score of 5-0 to the Toft team did not reflect the fight put up by the visitors.
