Bourne athletes played their part as Grantham AC’s under-13 and under-15 age groups competed recently in the fourth and final round of the youth development league at Sutton-in-Ashfield.
The young Grantham team set some fine track and field performances in the torrential rain with the track at times resembling a stream.
The team finished second in the match to Derby, setting 32 personal best performances between them, two club records and nine new or improved entries into the UK.
They included Bourne athletes Saskia and Aaron Hunt.
Saskia competed in the 1500 metres, finishing fourth in a time of 5.51.5, and came second in the javelin with a throw of 9.25m.
Aaron was third in the 800m in 2.05.3 and in the 100m in 14.9 seconds.
Grantham’s athletes have had an outstanding season finishing second in the league to Derby.
Saskia and Aaron were back in action for Grantham the following weekend, competing in the 3,000m race at the Lincolnshire league meeting at the Meres in Grantham.
Saskia won in 13 minutes 11.4 seconds while Aaron finished third in a new personal best of 10 minutes 34.5 seconds.
