Two of Stamford Schools rising stars have been rewarded with national recognition for their achievements in school colours.
Rugby captain Tom Gulland has been selected for Rugby World magazine’s All Star Team of the Term and basketball star James Cameron has won the school’s first national call-up of the year.
Gulland led his side through an unbeaten term and the school first XV were also awarded the Team of the Month award.
Gulland is the second pupil at the school to make the magazine’s fantasy team. He follows in the footsteps of 2011 1st XV skipper, Louis Grimoldby who is now at Harlequins.
Head of Stamford School, Will Phelan, said: “The award of Rugby World Team of the Month is a fine accolade and one which is only given to six teams per annum.
“It has been a thrilling season, often tense, always exciting, where some great rugby has been played.”
Director of Rugby David Laventure added: “Tom has worked very hard and to follow in Louis’ footsteps is tremendous. We think he has a bright future ahead of him.”
Stamford School have also celebrated their first international call-up of 2013 as basketball captain James Cameron has been selected for the Wales U18 team.
James has been an integral part of the school’s basketball squad for the last four seasons and top scorer for the last two, which have seen the squad go unbeaten.
Head of Basketball, Garry Mitchell, said: “James has worked really hard and deserves his opportunity; it is a great experience to play internationally.”
The Wales squad travel to the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) European Tournament in the summer.
James added: “It is a huge honour to represent my country. There is a lot of work to come as we strive for a medal finish in the European competition, which would be a dream come true.”
