Blackstones moved up to third place in Division One of the United Counties League after a 3-0 home victory over Lutterworth Town on Saturday.

The home side handed a debut to former Peterborough United and Stamford player Gareth Jelleyman.

Both teams had gone into the clash at the ALH Recruitment Stadium on the back of a decent run of form, but it was the home side who looked the more dangerous going forward.

Danny Barker fired just wide after a marauding run at the Lutterworth defence before Liam Harrold headed just over at the far post.

Stones broke the deadlock after 26 minutes when Harrold’s effort from a Ben Porter cross was pushed onto the crossbar by the visiting goalkeeper. The ball looped back into the box where Barker fired home a composed finish.

Lutterworth made a determined start to the second half, but found Stones’ back four - which included new signing Gareth Jelleyman - in fine form.

Matthew Carter, standing in for the injured jack Bates, also excelled along with Jake Pell and Ben Easson.

Stones doubled their advantage after 75 minutes when Porter provided another quality delivery into the box which was handled by a Lutterworth defender as Harrold looked set to head home.

The in-form Stones frontman then stepped up to convert the resultant penalty to continue his free-scoring start to the season.

As Lutterworth pushed forward searching for a way back into the contest, Stones broke away and Harrold took on a static defence to lob the advancing keeper for his ninth goal of the season which sealed all three points.

Stones are in Division One action on Tuesday night when they travel to bottom-of-the-table S&L Corby (7.45ko).

Blackstones: Bellairs, Easson, Carter, Pell, Jelleymen, Boome, Porter, Papworth, Harrold, Barker, De Sousa. Subs not used: Bates, Butler, Hands.
