TWO of Bourne’s top young athletes competed at the England Open Championships in Bedford last weekend.

Jenna Mohan entered the U15 girls javelin on Saturday and threw a new personal best and Nene Valley Harriers club record of 32.61m.

She had a good series of throws and exceeded her previous best of 31.40m three times to finish in 6th place (4th English athlete).

James McCrae also competed at the championships, racing in the U15 boys 800m and continued his fine form to finish fifth in a competitive heat with a time of 2.05.77. He was just outside his personal best of 2.05.12 and missed out on a place in the final by 0.96s in 9th place overall on times.

On Sunday, in the East Anglian League in Cambridge Jenna won the shot, discus and javelin, setting a new Nene Valley Harrier record in the discus with 23.87m.

James won the 800m from the front in 2.10.2 and was 3rd in the 400m (58.5).
