John Lewis voted player of the year
It was a proud and heartfelt occasion for Toft Golf Club’s past Lady captain Jean Parsons when she presented a cheque for £2,210 to Annette Beeton in her official capacity as chair- person of the Burghley Park and Peterborough Ladies whose prime mission is to raise much needed funds for Cancer Research UK.
Jean’s chosen areas for the money raised by Toft Golf Club lady members, friends and sponsors were Pancreatic Cancer, one of the biggest research challenges which Cancer Research scientists are working on (£1,210) and Oesophageal Cancer, one of the hardest cancers to treat and now one of Cancer Research UK’s top priorities (£1,000).
Joining Jean at the presentation were current Lady captain Helen Roscoe, competitions secretary and photographer Margaret Dair, press officer Sue Slowey and club assistant Bee McKechnie.
l Toft Seniors golf section held their Christmas lunch and presentation day on a wet and windy Thursday last week.
A three club competition was held prior to the festivities which was won by Nigel Turnbull with 39 points, considering the conditions and the three club handicap this was a tremendous score.
The Seniors then took their places in the George suite ready for the yuletide festivities. After a most enjoyable Christmas feast was dispatched captain Tony Cushing thanked the hotel staff for keeping a large number of hungry golfers fed and watered on the day,and for their friendly service throughout the year.
The green keepers and club professionals were also commended for all their hard work. A glass was raised to absent friends before the presentation.
Captain Tony, aided and abetted by past captain Richard Shuttlewood, presented the winners and runners up with their respective trophies. John Lewis was star golfer of the day winning numerous competitions during the season culminating in becoming the player of the year.
