Ketton’s star-stuffed Cambs League Division Two team have swept all opposition aside this season to claim the league title and they could still become the most successful side ever to play in that league.
Ketton need just eight points from their final match against Khala in their final match of the season to surpass the previous best set by Castor in 2011, which was then led by the now Ketton captain Robin Vetas.
Ketton won the league on August 30 with a win over Eaton Socon. But with the record in sight, they gave no quarter to Abington on Saturday, beating the home side by five wickets.
Abington could only set the visitors a target of 115 after they were bowled out.
Robert Woolley was the star with the ball for Ketton, taking an impressive 6-33.
Ajaz Akhtar was unplayable for long spells as well, taking 2-20 which included eight maidens.
However Ketton did not make light work of the reply.
Again Woolley was the standout performer, hitting an unbeaten 80 runs to see his side home but his teammates had an out of character match, with five batsmen losing their wickets cheaply for just 25 runs.
