Ketton’s first game without manager Darren Edey, who stepped down from his duties at the helm of the first team last week, could not have been much bigger in terms of their season.

Promotion chasing Ketton, who are third in the PDFL Division One, travelled to second place AFC Stanground in a battle of the league’s best defence against the best attack.

But on a very windy day the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate however it was Ketton left wondering what could have been.

Despite being under pressure in the first half Ketton were close to taking the lead when Ian Marsh crashed a shot against the upright.

Ketton’s live-wire striker Will Bird was then smashed in the penalty box, forcing him to leave the field with an ankle injury but despite his obvious pain the referee did not point to the spot.

However when Ketton were awarded a penalty in the final ten minutes of the match Matt Woodman put his effort wide of the mark to waste a golden chance to reel in their rivals. Ketton have this weekend off from action.
