Knights chasing a quickfire cup double
Nassington chase a quickfire cup double tonight (June 29, 6pm) when tackling Uppingham in the final of the Stamford Charity Cup at Stamford Town CC.
The Knights claimed their first Jaidka Cup triumph last week when defeating Market Deeping Dragons by 24 runs in the final, but they face another tough contest this evening against the runaway leaders of Rutland Division One.
Nassington are actually second in that competition, but 47 points behind Uppingham.
Nassington skipper Alex Laud misses tonight’s match because of university commitments, but Kiwi Ryan Duffy is back after missing the Jaidka Final.
Laud said: “It’s great to already have a trophy in the bag, but we are hungry for more.
“We deserved to win one Twenty/20 competition at least because our form in that form of the game has been exceptional all season. It’s a tough game tonight against a very good Uppingham side, but we will go there confident and with the pressure off.
“We are still in two other cups so hopefully we can win another one.”
The dynamic Craig borthers Conor and Harrison will be key men for Nassington tonight as will Duffy, a player capable of clearing the biggest boundaries, and all-rounder Kasim Ikhlaq. Prolific opening batsman Dan Robinson will skipper Nassington who are also still in the Stamford KO Shield and the John Wilcox Trophy.
Nassington beat King’s Keys in the latter competition’s quarter-finals yesterday. They host the same opposition in a re-arranged KO Shield semi-final on Monday, July 6.
Market Deeping and Ketton will also play their delayed semi-final on the same night.
Premier Division Oundle will reach Finals Day in the Northants Twenty/20 Cup competition with a win over Division Two outfit Rothwell at Milton Road tomorrow (June 30, 6pm).
