Langtoft United were left feeling shell-shocked after allowing a game they were in control of to rapidly get away from them at Pinchbeck United on Saturday.

The Vikings had been leading 1-0, and had missed chances to make it 2-0, before the points were torn from their grip by four quickfire Pinchbeck goals just after the hour mark.

Langtoft took the lead through a Josh Hales penalty in the first half. Having been tripped inside the area, the forward picked himself up and sent the spot kick down the middle of the goal.

Langtoft had chances to increase their lead, with the best of the half falling to Tony Wooding, but he was unable to find the net from a tight angle having rounded the home keeper.

The Vikings had very strong shouts for a second penalty waved away just before half time. Dan Evans beat his man to the ball and was seemingly taken out, but, much to the disbelief of both sets of managers, the referee waved play on.

The second half began with Langoft picking up from where they had left off. Hales latched on to a through ball and lifted the ball over the keeper but it was cleared off the line.

That seemed to affect Langtoft as they allowed their hosts to not only get back into the game but kill it with four goals in quick succession.

Langtoft manager Phil Gadsby said: “I’m a bit shell-shocked as to how we have managed to lose a game we were in control of for 60 minutes.

“That is the most disappointed I’ve been in my team since I took over as manager. We completely changed our style of play for some reason and it cost us.”

“I think naivety is probably the best way to describe it, and too many people went hiding when they needed to stand up and be counted.”
