Stamford Striders are holding a Winter League five-mile competition during lockdown
Legs Miserables have extended their lead at the top of the Stamford Striders' Winter League five-mile competition.
The team of captain Neil Martin, event organiser Ed Fancourt, James McCloskey, Steve Knight, Fran Carlin, Calli Robinson, Abbie Alderson, Doreen Spikings, Anna Woodall and Sarah Sharp now hold a 51-point advantage over second-placed Mud Sweat and Tiers after the third round of the monthly challenge.
The Sweet Six team have moved up into third place with Every Second Counts rising into fourth spot from seventh.
The event sees 11 teams made up of Striders who each individually run five miles between the first and seventh of each month.
They are then put into a league table based on how long it took with each runner having submitted an estimate for their five miles which helped to select the teams.
Mark Popple took the individual honours for the third successive round after posting his fastest time of the challenge with a return of 27.31.
Luke Harrison now has two second spots and a third place after finishing as runner-up behind Popple in a time of 27.53 which was his quickest effort so far.
Jim Morris - January's runner-up - was third this time around in 27.57 with Nick Harding taking fourth place in 29.30.
Mike Chapman claimed fifth spot for the second successive month in 29.37 while Sam Barrett was sixth in 30.04 after three consecutive fourth place finishes.
Club chairman Nick Wells broke into the top 10 for the first time after taking ninth place in 31.27 which was more than two minutes better than his previous outing.
Flo Leftley-Gynn was again the leading lady after finishing in 14th spot with a time of 33.15 to finish ahead of Katie Arnold and Suzanne Moon.
The majority of the runners also improved their times with Graham Edwards continuing to progress each round.
After posting 41.21 for 57th place in the December round, Edwards was 44th in January's race in 37.25 before clocking 34.15 to take 21st spot this time around.
Ian Sharp has knocked almost three minutes off each of his times after finishing his February challenge in 34.53 following earlier efforts of 37.16 and 40.10.
Abbie Alderson and Clare Morley have also shown a similar improvement in their times while Sarah Sharp continues to gather pace.
After a return of 60.42 for her December challenge, Sharpe posted 42.28 for January and then recorded 38.47 this time around.
Barbara Narey took almost four minutes off her previous times after returning 41.34 while Morag Roberts was more than seven minutes fastest than last month.
