Kieran strikes gold as Tae Kwon Do students shine in Croatia




Students at the Annabel Murcott Schools of Tae Kwon Do returned with a staggering medal haul from the European Championships in Croatia.

As well as the 16-strong trophy haul, they also had a double European champion and best fighter on the day among their ranks.

They came 12th club overall from the 66 clubs from around the world which entered.

Double European lightweight champion was Stamford's Lily Roberton who took gold in point stop and continuous sparring as well as being best cadet fighter on the day.

Roberton had some tough fights to get through to the finals in both disciplines but secured two gold medals in sparring and a silver in patterns with the points added up that led to her gaining best cadet fighter.

Adult heavyweight Matthew Kelly brought home a staggering five medals for the club - two silver in point stop sparring for both veterans over 35s and the normal adults, then two silvers in continuous and bronze in patterns.

Junior cadet fighter Kieran Fowler from Bourne won gold in the power test with a turning kick and two silver in sparring, one point stop the other continuous.

Ambrose O'Neil from Bourne won gold in patterns while Archie Pattinson took two silvers in junior point stop sparring and patterns.

Henry Kelly, the youngest in the team at six-years-old, won bronze in patterns.

Instructor and seventh dan world master Annabel was very proud of all her students and officials that worked very hard over the weekend.

She said: "Lily fought with the heart of a lion, as they all did.

"As a coach it's not only fantastic to see the results as a team, but to see their faces when they know all the hard work and dedication has paid off is priceless.

"So far this year we have not only grown as a club but also seen more and more students wanting to get into the competitive side of Tae Kwon Do which is not only great for our sport but gives them goals to aim for and improves their art."
