Members of the Market Overton Bowls Club enjoyed a fantastic meal at Greetham Valley Hotel for their annual presentation night.

Gerry Barker had organised the club competitions for 2015 and shared the presentations with president Mal Croson.

Gerry also organises the Chummy Nights during the summer and is a past President and past secretary so has an insight into various aspects of the club administration.

The regular Chummy nights are roll-ups where experienced and novice bowlers just turn up and have a practice as well as a social gathering, points are gained throughout. In third place was Syd Forbes, second Terry Ashelford and overall winner Peter Craddock.

The remaining trophies were awarded as follows:

Nowick Cup, drawn triples, runners-up Syd Forbes, Annette Oliver, Mal Croson; winners Ann Cusdin, Les Cusdin and Jonny Abbott.

Novice Cup, open singles, runner-up Martin Hart; winner Brian Abbott.

Tornado Trophy mixed pairs, last year’s winners were this year’s runners-up Mal Croson and Annette Oliver; winners Jeannie Hutton and Tom Todkill.

Coronation Cup, open singles, runner-up Jeannie Hutton, winner Tom Todkill.

EE Gibson cup for open pairs, runners-up Syd Forbes and Mal Croson; winners Jeannie Hutton and Tom Todkill. I & Bond Cup, ladies two wood singles, runner-up Cathy Mitchell; winner Jeannie Hutton.

George West Cup, Men’s two wood singles, runner-up Les Cusdin; winner Mal Croson.

Rutland Electric Cup, Ladies Champion, Jeannie Hutton on a winning roll in 2015 beat last year’s champion Annette Oliver.

The Club Cup for the Men’s Champion runner-up was Mike Boddington, and the winner John Mitchell.

The Robin Britton Shield is awarded by the current President ‘to a member that in his or her opinion has done most during the year for the benefit of the whole club’ and Mal Croson, taking into account all the effort by Gerry mentioned previously awarded this to him.

Another announcement was made regarding the super win this summer, and a first for the club, of Betty Bell and Annette Oliver who were the Leicestershire and Rutland County Pairs Champions.

A number of rounds had to be played against teams from other parts of the county with the final at St Margarets in Leicester in September; also an opportunity to represent the county in the National Competitions at Leamington Spa in August. This put Market Overton on the map as many of their opponents had never heard of this village.
