Stamford AFC's 40th anniversary of their FA Vase victory over Guisborough at Wembley Stadium

Manager Malcolm Hird masterminded an amazing transformation of Stamford’s fortunes by leading them to FA Vase glory in 1980.

The now-retired Casterton Community College teacher had landed his first job in football management when he took over at the Daniels helm as a rookie 32-year-old boss.

Hird had enjoyed a distinguished playing career for Stamford and had skippered the side which completed a United Counties League and Cup double in 1976.
