A ROLLER derby team which is based in Oakham and Stamford is recruiting for new players, referees and officials.
Mean Valley Roller Girls is recruiting in Stamford on Friday next week as the group would like to encourage as many women in the area to take up a great sport and get fit.
Roller derby is an all women’s full-contact sport and is open to women over 18 who are any age, shape and size.
The group already has 50 fantastic players from the area who a year ago would never have thought they’d be whizzing around on a pair of roller skates for fun.
Team director Emma Grove, of St Paul’s Street, Stamford, said: “In just under a year the team has grown so much and we have achieved a great deal to become a part of the community.
“We want to encourage more women, and men, to come along and learn to skate. There are jobs available for skaters, referees and non-skating officials.
“We are not just a team, we are a group of great friends and we always have something going on that can include anyone of any ability, skating or non.”
The recruitment session will be held at Stamford Queen Eleanor School at 7pm. Kit will be provided and the first session is free.
