Oakham United beaten by ICA Sports in Peterborough League Premier Division clash

Oakham United were left to rue a series of missed chances on Saturday as their search for their first points and goals of the new Peterborough League campaign continues.

United went down to their fourth successive league loss after a 1-0 away Premier Division reversal at Peterborough ICA Sports.

Joint manager Stewart Lambie felt his side had created enough openings to have ended their winless streak after ICA had taken advantage of an Oakham error to secure their second win from three games.

Lambie said: "We should have won the game. It was really disappointing because we just didn't take any of our chances.

"We had five or six good chances, but it was just one of those days. We just don't seem to be having any luck at the moment.

"Teams are taking advantage of any mistake we make and we're not doing the same to them.

"We're panicking in front of goal and we are still not doing the basics right and defending as a unit for some reason.

"Nothing is going for us at the moment, but that's football.

"The unavailabilities are not helping either. We're having to change four or five players each game and I'm just hoping that's because it's the time of the year.

"Hopefully we can get our first win as soon as possible and then go on a bit of a run. It's just hard at the minute to see where it's going to come from."

Oakham fell behind midway through the first half of Saturday's clash at Ringwood as Josh Robertson let the ball squirm under his foot and Jack Fryett raced through to score.

David Bates and Kieran Burley both had good opportunities to bring Oakham back into the game but were unable to end the Rutlanders' goal drought.

They again created the better openings in the second period with the usually-reliable Michael Nelson failing to convert a couple more decent chances.

With Oakham pushing more men forward in the latter stages, ICA could have doubled their lead on the counter-attack but missed an open goal from three yards out.

Oakham: Barker, Jenkins, Richmond, Robertson, North, Bates, Burley, Lambie, Mastin, Nelson, Gooding. Subs used: Lopes, Parker. Not used: Chamberlain, Griffen.

Oakham are in derby action tonight (Tuesday) when they host Ketton at Lands' End Meadow (kick-off 7.30pm).

They visit Leverington Sports on Saturday in the Peterborough Senior Cup.
