A great chance for juniors to learn skills

Have your say

Junior anglers have a great chance to learn fly-fishing skills at Rutland Water later this month.

Dozens of volunteers will show the ropes to up to 90 ten to 17-year-olds during a day-long event on June 15.

Experienced anglers will demonstrate casting and how to use tackle at Normanton Fishing Lodge during the morning, and will lead boat fishing throughout the afternoon.

The event has been backed by Anglian Water, the Environment Agency and several manufacturers of angling equipment to keep the cost at £15 per junior.

Last year’s event proved popular and this week Jeremy Ball, one of the organisers, said: “We have filled more than 60 places already with people coming from as far as Yorkshire and Devon but it would be nice to have a good local contingent as well.”

No experience or equipment is required and lunch will be provided. Just bring a hat and suncream.
