TOFT ladies’ league team put in a stirring performance to earn a vital 2.5-1.5 victory at home against Woodhall Spa.
The ladies knew a win was crucial to safeguard their position in the first division for next season while their opponents only needed a half to knock them out.
They pulled it off but it took some nerveless play to get there.
Mairead Scott and Cathy Lee began the fight with a rewarding halved result followed up with a mighty 6&5 win from Carole Priestman and Diane Clayton. But Woodhall drew level in defeating Mary Stark and Margaret Dair by 4&3 leading to a nervous wait for the rest of the players. Fortunately for Toft, Helen Roscoe and Lorraine Robinson ended their match 2 up.
l TWENTY Toft ladies drew lots for partners to compete in the annual Sally Parker Cup competition played in the Greensomes format favoured by Sally in whose memory her husband Alan dedicated the trophy.
The weather was kind so scoring was generous and the winning pair of Jean Parsons and Judith Childs amassed a grand total of 43 points with Lisa Gauci and Diane Clayton second on 40.
