RUSS Aust scorched round the Rutland County golf course to win the Premier Cup with a fine 43 points to make up for narrowly missing out on this year’s club championship.
Now playing off 3.8, Aust’s contribution to the scratch team has helped the club finish mid-table in the Leicestershire and Rutland League.
Dave Waddell shot 42 for second place with his handicap cut to 12. Deggie Palmer, also with 42, was third on countback and now returns to category 1 playing off 5.1. Fourth-placed Michael Pressick will now play off 2.1 after a score of 41.
Suzanne Huxley was top lady on 32 points. Olly Huxley was nearest pin in 2 on the 12th.
n GERRY McIntyre won the Past Captain’s Trophy on 37 points, comfortably ahead of Andy Lawrence in second place on 35. Paul Milsom was third on 34 points.
n things are hotting up in the mixed doubles with Pat Wright and Phil Drury disposing of fancied pair, Andy Vernon and Imogen Huxley by just one down in the semi-final.
In the Scratch Knockout, Tom Dunn lost his quarter-final narrowly to Russ Aust on the first extra hole – meanwhile John Peyser dumped last year’s winner Deggie Palmer out on the second extra hole.
