Although Braunston B have been confirmed champions, interest remains in the race for runner’s-up spot in Division two of the Stamford and Rutland Table Tennis League.

The champions travelled to Eastfield C, one of the teams challenging for second, and secured an impressive 7-3 win.

Eastfield fielded a strong side but Braunston’s
Basil Bagshaw and Carl Slevin played extremely well to each remain unbeaten. This was Eastfield’s third defeat of the season, and the dropped points might prove key in the final count-up.

Although Eastfield still have three matches to play, Stamford Free Church continued their late run of victories with an 8-2 success at Tallington A.

Ralph Rogers was the major reason for this success, and he was again unbeaten. John Chambers and Rob Elliott each won twice to ensure the Churchmen’s victory, while Paul Ramm replied with two for the villagers.

Although Free Church have completed their matches and have a 12 point cushion in second, both Bourne C and Eastfield C will expect to overhaul them as they complete their remaining matches.

Towards the bottom of the table, Uffington CC B defeated Bourne E 6-4 with Martyn Willgress unbeaten and Chris Alston a two-time winner.
