Bourne Tennis Club’s men rounded off their Aegon Team Tennis League season on a high with a resounding win 10-2, against Appleby Frodingham at the Abbey Lawn on Sunday.
There were wins in the singles rubbers for Clive Moody 6-3, 6-0, James Westgate 6-1, 6-1, and Iain Ross, who needed a third set tie break to take his singles 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.
Will Palmer was unlucky not to complete a singles whitewash, losing a tie break 10-4 after sharing the first two sets.
In the doubles, Palmer and Moody came through 6-3, 6-4, with Westgate and Ross also winning after dropping the first set and going to a tie break third set 5-7, 6-1, 11-9.
In the Aegon Junior U14 League, Bourne are hoping to register their first win this season when Tennis Buddies from Woodhall Spa visit the Abbey Lawn on Saturday. In their previous match at Grantham, Bourne lost 2-10, but took pride in the credible performances from the team.
Samuel Hallam won his singles in a third set tie break after sharing the first two sets 6-1, 5-7.
Hallam then partnered Joe Heppenstall in their doubles, but lost a third set tie break after sharing the first two sets 6-3, 6-7, narrowly losing the second on a tie break.
Other results from the tie were losses in the singles for Harrison Gray 0-6, 0-6, Nicholas Smith 1-6, 2-6 and Heppenstall 2-6, 5-7. In the remaining doubles, Gray and Smith lost 0-6, 1-6.
