It was a big weekend of racing for Bourne Wheelers cycling club at the weekend as they held their annual circuit races at Fulbeck near Sleaford.

The races held extra importance as they were used as a selection race for the East Midlands Inter Regional Road Race team, which meant all the best riders from the area were in attendance.

Bourne Wheelers’ riders were to the fore in all races, with the eye-catching performance being that of 16-year-old Tim James, who put in his best ride of the year in placing second in the under-16 boys race.

Never far from the front, James managed to get into the race-winning break of four pulling well clear of the rest of the field.

In the sprint finish, James just did not quite have enough to claim victory but his fine second place should see him on the shortlist for selection for the East Midlands later in the year.

Also placing second was the ever-consistent Maddie Gammons in the under-16 girls race.

She continued her great start to the season by also placing third in the women-only race.

Other Bourne Wheelers placing well were Emily Comben who came third in the under-8 girls, Charlotte Garfield finishing one place behind in fourth.

Alex Galpin was third in the under-10 boys followed in by clubmates Dan Galpin in seventh and Harry Garfield ninth.

Charley Woodworth was fourth in the under-10 girls ans Jess Woodworth came second in the under-14 girls event. The Bourne club’s youth section continued to produce strong results and Kelsey Benton claimed fourth in the under-14 girls and Robbie Ward was seventh in the under-16 boys category.

The other top performance from a local rider in the senior section was that of Sian Botteley who took her fourth victory of the year in the womens race where she took top spot thanks to a perfectly timed sprint.
