The top two places of Division One of the Stamford and Rutland Table Tennis League are held by teams who both enjoyed comfortable victories last week.

Braunston A continued their impressive season with a 9-1 defeat of two-man Bourne B’.

Chuck Kershaw and Graham Cooper again remained unbeaten for Braunston, while Brian Spittlehouse gained the consolation point for Bourne after defeating Brian Bodycote.

Hampton eased into second place by virtue of an 8-2 win over Uffington CC A. Greg Baxter and Matt Durrands continue to earn encouraging wins for the cricketers, but Dave Rowell and Ray Aballe proved too strong on this occasion.

Following two decisive wins, Bourne D are the biggest movers in Division 2.

Their bigger win was with a 9-1 scoreline against Uffington CC B, with Stuart Wills and Chris Holland unbeaten and Kevin Greenfield a two-time winner. In their 7-3 win over Tallington A, roles were reversed with Kevin unbeaten and Chris and Stuart both winning twice.

With a number of teams vying for the top two positions, Bourne D will be hoping to retain this form up to and beyond the Christmas break.

Tallington fell to their second 3-7 defeat at the bats of new league leaders Bourne C.

Harry Jackson was the only unbeaten player on the night, while team-mates Clive Jackson and Mike Shattock both won twice. Paul Ramm played well to earn two points for the hosts, and he was joined by Richard Allen to win the doubles match.
