Eighty players took part in the Captain’s Day celebrations at Rutland Water Golf Club on Saturday, which saw Mark Henshaw emerge victorious with a score of 42 points.
Henshaw’s round included a brilliant run of four pars in a row from the 11th to the 14th and an amazing three on the 17th when his tee shot landed well right of the green in the thick rough.
He kept his composure and used the contours of the green brilliantly to chip the ball to six inches and a tap in par.
Big hitting Robbie Pengelly secured second with an excellent birdie at the 18th to finish on 40 points, with John Sansome third on 38 points.
In the Ladies competition, Marion Clarke took the spoils with 34 points to win her third competition of the year. Jo Morris was second.
After the round competitors enjoyed a barbecue put on by captain Eamonn O’Brien and the presentation to all the winners.
The club raised more than £100 for the Captain’s charity, which Eamonn selected as the injured jockey’s fund.
l Rutland Water Seniors have had a successful month with a 4–2 win at Thorney Lakes at the beginning of the month and a recent 4½-1½ home triumph over local rivals North Luffenham.
