STAMFORD Indoor Bowls Club’s A team narrowed the gap on Lincolnshire League Division Two leaders Sleaford to just six points with maximum points from their home clash with Horncastle.

Every rink played its part in a 139-61 victory, claiming all 18 points, with Mike Ramsden, Wilf Jenner, Martyn Bailey and Peter Edwards recording a 39-10 result.

A-team members Bob Warters and Martyn Dolby will compete in the English National Finals at Melton Mowbray on Monday (6.30pm) in the Over 60s 4-bowl pairs against a duo from Hounslow.

In an exciting finish to the mixed clash at home to Scunthorpe Stamford won 90-87 claiming 12 of the 18 points to retain third place. Stella Henshaw, Wally Kettle, Margaret Bloxham and Albert Horton were the best winning rink with a 29-8 score line.

There was also a third success for Stamford’s women’s team in the Trudy Bates County League winning 112-73 at Dunholme, with Bloxham’s rink claiming seven shots on the last three ends to secure a well-earned extra point.

In the Northants Federation competitions at least one Stamford player will be in the finals of the Over 65 men’s singles with Dave Hudson set to meet Creeton’s Derek King for the chance to meet either Doug Want or Joe Martin (Peterborough).

Want and his wife Jan lost in the mixed pairs to Martin and Jenny Harvey but are through to the semi-finals of the mixed triples with Adam Warrington, who’s also in the last four of the 4-wood singles after defeating clubmate Richard Allam.

In the county competitions, two Stamford rinks competed a notable double over Boston to reach the quarter-finals.
