Rutland 1st 5 Cambridge City 4th 0

RUTLAND clocked up another comfortable win to maintain their lead at the top of the league.

The game opened with Rutland quickly taking the lead through two drag-flick short corners from Scott Perry. However, despite creating numerous excellent chances the forwards were persistently off target and the score remained 2-0 until half time.

The second half started in much the same way until a great breaking move concluded with James Grant scoring.

Two more goals were added from Perry and Jordan Allen to seal a 5-0 victory.

Wisbech 2nd 0

RUTLAND 2nds continued their recent good form with a hard fought win over a resilient Wisbech side on Saturday.

Although recent victories against teams above them in the league made them strong favourites and it was not long before Rutland took the lead with a flowing move. Centre forward James Jarvis slipped the ball through to on rushing right wing Andy Bethwaite who unselfishly picked out left wing Matty Taylor who cracked an unstoppable shot from an acute angle in to the bottom right corner.

Unfortunately the opening goal was a rare highlight for the home side as they laboured against combative opponents who gave them no time in midfield.

Rutland kept hold of the ball better in the second half but despite playing almost the entire half on the attack, it took until the final five minutes for Rutland to add to their score. Richard Jennings converted a short corner to ease tensions and ensure the win.

Freddie Holland stood out for Rutland, with a great performance in the unfamiliar position of right full back.
