Cooper nets spot in masters showpiece

TWO dozen anglers took part in the Rutland heat of the Lexus individual competition last week.

Graeme Ferguson claimed the best weight with eight fish for 26lb 12oz along with a time bonus. In second place was Steve Cranson with 8 for 23lb 3oz, also with time bonus, and in third was John Hood with 8 for 21lb 3oz. The match rod average was 3.54.

Rutland Water also hosted the Lexus Team Championship qualifier which fished to an excellent rod average of 4.75.

The best fish of the competition was taken by Renegades team member Mark Rose at 6lb 15oz. Rob Edmunds, fishing for the team Riomasters, had the best bag of the day at 27lb 3oz. The top five teams have qualified for the final which will be hosted at Rutland Water in September.

Results: 1st Seighford Sharks 42 fish for 105lb 14oz; 2nd Riomasters 39 for 104lb 15oz; 3rd Ian Bar Team Dohiku 34 for 94lb 9oz; 4th The Second String 36 for 93lb 12oz; 5th Renegades 27 for 73lb 7oz.

l THE Trout Masters fish-off was held on the banks of Rutland Water on Saturday with local rod Richard Cooper of Empingham taking first place with an excellent bag of 35lb 3½oz including a time bonus.

His best fish was a cracking 6½lb rainbow. Richard’s successful tactics were a Di5 and black and green boobie fished at the Monument, Sykes Lane.

Richard has won a place in the Trout Masters final, fishing both the bank and by boat, to be hosted at Grafham Water in May. Second place went to Tony Beresford with 8 fish for 31lb 1½oz and third place to Steve Crowder with 8 fish for 20lb 9oz.

l ENGLAND Youth team member Kieran Bonas landed a superb 6lb 9oz rainbow during Saturday’s practice day for the friendly match fished on Sunday.

The match itself was a friendly between the England Youth Team and local competition anglers with an outstanding rod average of 6 fish.

Results: 1st Rob Edmunds’ team 56 fish for 180lb; 2nd England Youth A 46 fish for 130lb 15oz; 3rd England Youth B 42 fish for 105lb.

The best rainbow of the week was an 8lb 1oz trout taken by Neil McIndoe of Market Harborough. The best brown was a 6lb 4oz fish taken by Roy Rayson of Melton Mowbray.

The Anglian Water Airflo International Northern Heat takes place at Rutland Water on Sunday.

Eyebrook Trout Fishery

A GRAND total of 765 fish were caught at Eyebrook last week bringing the season total to 3,590.

Among the top catches of the week was a monster 8lb 13oz rainbow caught by Carlisle pair Eric Little and Keith Wood. Oliver Bird of Greetham also fished at Eyebrook and caught a 7lb 3oz rainbow on a Light Bulb.

l THE Eyebrook heat of the 2012 Trout Masters fish-off was held on Saturday with Jonathan Greig winning. He will now represent Eyebrook at the Trout Masters Grand final at Grafham Water on May 14.
