Crushing drives tee up knockout title for Richard

Richard Sims used his length off the tee to crush Pete Siciliano 7&6 in the final of Rutland County’s singles knockout.

Playing off 9, Sims is now aiming to join Rutland County’s young guns in the A team next year.

John Peyser won the first semi-final of the club’s scratch knockout, winning 2&1. He now awaits the winner of the second semi, to be played between Russ Aust and Darren Child.

Dick Wray took the singles crown, defeating Arthur Dethick on the 18th hole, while Rob Elliott and David Whitehead claimed the doubles on the first extra hole, beating David Wilson and John Killin.

Rutland County’s B team beat Elton Furze 3½-2½ with next year’s captain Kevin Moxham and Deggie Palmer winning 8&6. Andy Vernon and Dave Waddell won 6&5, Gerry McIntyre and Mike Powell halved, Craig Allan and Pete Siciliano won 3&2, Martyn Gatehouse and Chris Palmer lost 2 down, and Dave Rippin and Packa Risi lost 4&3.
