RUTLAND racing cyclists have been competing on and off road throughout April.
Amelia Cambridge and Rebecca Cunnell, both riding for of Velo Club Rutland, competed in the third round of the Midlands Cross Country Series mountain bike race over a tough course at Birchall, near Dronfield.
The route began with 2km of continuous climbing, most of it on grass which had not fared well after heavy rain, before a speedy single track descent.
Rebecca finished fifth in the female class, while Amelia was halted by mechanical issues.
A trio of Velo Club Rutland riders raced in the second round of the Pedal Pushers Circuit Race Series at Barkston Heath on Saturday, when the riders battled the elements, and a slippery course.
Ollie Maxwell competed in the U16s race and mad a good start, managing to get in the breakaway group. They maintained the gap ahead of the rest of the field with Ollie taking a top 10 finish.
In the 4th Category race, Jonny Lloyd and Lawrence Green competed with Jonny attempting to break from the pack. But was unable to enter the spring alone and came away with 11th position.
Oakham’s James Cambridge, riding for i-ride.co.uk in the Category 2/3/4 race, encountered the worst the weather but managed to get away with a breakaway group to finish seventh.
James also competed in the Mallory Park circuit race on April 19 and finished sixth in the Elite/1/2/3 category race.
Ollie Maxwell also competed at Mallory Park, winning the U16 race.
l MANY Velo Club members are in action this Sunday in the CiCLE Classic Kermesse Race, run as a support race to the Rutland-Melton CiCLE Classic.
The race takes place in Owston, before the passage of the main race through the village.
