Deeping St James darts legend Martin Adams’ attempt to become the first player to lift the BDO World Trophy has ended at the quarter-final stages.
‘Wolfie’ Adams was beaten 10-8 by Ross Montgomery of Scotland in a quarter-final clash in Blackpool yesterday (Sunday).
The 2014 Daily Mirror BDO World Trophy is the new major darts tournament run by the British Darts Organisation,
The quarter-final started pretty evenly until Ross took five legs in a row to give him an unassailable lead.
The Deeping man rallied superbly from 8-4 down but just came up short, to lose 10-8, against a player he had beaten in the Lakeside World Championship last month.
Adams had beaten qualifier Rob Rickwood and his Lakeside conqueror Jan Dekker on route to the quarter-finals.
The in form Montgomery went on to beat Gary Robson in the semi-final before losing to James Wilson in the final.
