Junior county champion Megan Hassall (13) from Bourne travelled to

Northumberland on Saturday to take part in a national under 15 silver badminton England tournament.

Partnering Kate Garnham (14) from Lincoln they played some of their best badminton to beat all the opposition in a round robin contest and take the gold medal in the level doubles.

Megan then went on to partner Harry Walker from Sheffield in the mixed doubles, a new partnership for this season, and they reached the final comfortably.

They then met Kate Garnham and her partner Jack Tierney from Scunthorpe.

Despite being the underdogs Megan and Harry played some excellent attacking badminton to take the first end 15-12.

They kept their focus to start well in the second end, going 7-2 up, much to everyone’s surprise. Their opponents then raised their game, began to attack more and pulled the score back, keeping it level until a few mistakes allowed Megan and Harry to take the last few points winning 15-12, 15-12 and a second gold medal for Megan.

A promising start in the singles unfortunately came to an end when Megan developed a knee injury.
